Mel Gibson - Where's the Widespread Conservative outrage?

Okay - so it's been a couple days since Mel Gibson got drunk and shat all over himself, anti-semite style. That's more than enough time for all the big time conservative elements in the blogosphere, some of whom made a point of defending Gibson when he was accused of anti-semitism in "Passion," to eat crow and/or harshly excoriate Gibson for his nasty words, just as they'd do if it had been Alec Baldwin, Michael Moore or Cindy Sheehan behind the wheel of that Lexus... right?

Well... not really.

The only major conservative blog that's really gone full throttle about it was Libertas.

"Provided all the details are verified (they’re still under investigation), I’m more than a little angry at Mr. Gibson. I am volcanic. ... Gibson’s alleged comments also come after a lot of conservatives in Hollywood and elsewhere had gone to the mat to defend him against charges of anti-Semitism. Those conservatives included Govindini and I - who stood up for Gibson, even on national television. Neither of us believed those charges about him. Neither of us wanted to pre-judge Gibson or his film purely on the basis of his father’s remarks. ... I don’t know what Gibson’s personal motivations were - and it now seems possible Gibson may have been a bullshit artist, a devout but deranged crank who took conservatives and Christians for a ride. If that’s what he’s done, then his behavior has been lower than dirt. For all I’m concerned, he can now stick his career where the sun don’t shine."

The Captains Quarters also calls the spade a spade, and lets abe Foxman of the ADL have it for his stupid call for a criminal probe. It isn't a crime to hate Jews, or anyone for that matter - It's a personal decision that eventually gets you ostracized from polite company when you get drunk and yell at a cop.

The folks at NRO's Corner? Jonah Goldberg seems sort of wishy washy, but Jon Podhoretz takes no prisoners

But...

Any words from David Horowitz at Frontpage Magazine, which often acts as a vanguard against Hollywood anti-semitism? No - he'd rather cheer on Israel's offense against Lebanon et al than touch that one. I wonder why...?

Michelle Malkin? Only a very lukewarm "Very awful, if the reports are true." Yeah, you tell 'em, Michelle. I bet he's quaking in his shoes, now.

Little Green Footballs? Nothing yet.

David "Axis of Evil" Frum? "If a drunken Mel Gibson did indeed call out, "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world," then there can be only one possible place for a man who believes such things: as the next Secretary General of the United Nations." Oh, ha ha ha. You wacky guy.

(I'm told Michael Medved said something eerily similar when asked about it. Go fig.)

Anne Coulter? Nothing yet, but she doesn't blog. I predict she'll say "shame on you, but the media is more anti-semitic, anyway, and they never apologize" in her next column.

So no... no widespread condemnation. At least not yet.

But maybe we can catch them when they all take a dump on Mitt "Tar Baby" Romney, too.

UPDATE 1 - 8/1: Don Feder says his piece over at Frontpage

"Forgive me, but this is a typical celebrity apology – "I behaved badly (without actually addressing the conduct/statements in question). I’m sorry. But that’s not really me."

I’m not buying it."

He also uses the occasion to thump on Cindy Sheehan, Louis Farakhan, Bill Clinton, Pat Buchanan and Michael Moore.

No Gibson whitewash / No word from Dr. Ho

Well, in case you were thinking the news about Mel Gibson's little anti-semitic faux pas was a case of "he said / he threw up in the drunk tank," we have confirmation from the police

Lt. Steve Smith, in charge of the detective bureau for the Malibu/Lost Hills station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, confirmed to me just now that "the contents seem to be similar" between the official reports and the four pages posted by TMZ.com on the Internet alleging Mel Gibson "blurted out a barrage of anti-Semitic remarks" -- "fucking Jews" and "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" and asking the arresting deputy "Are you a Jew?" -- during his DUI arrest early Friday morning. ...

Smith told me emphatically, "There's no whitewash. I've seen the first report, and the supplemental report, and it looks to be the same thing as what's on the Internet. The contents that are on the Internet are covered in both those reports." That is the first official confirmation from the Sheriff's station that Gibson's alleged anti-Semitic rants are included in the official reports about his DUI arrest.

Pretty damn sad. Abraham Foxman at the ADL wants to drop the boom on Mel's ass, as you might expect.

What's amazing, however, is that there's no word from Davy Horowitz over at frontpage magazine. I can't believe he's too busy defending Israel's tactics to take some time out and drop some ass-kick on Gibson. (And I'm pretty sure he would if it were Alec Baldwin, Michael Moore or someone of a similar ilk)

I wonder why...?

The Passion of the Drunken Jew-Hater

Gibson, aged 50, was pulled over for speeding at 3:10 a.m. on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. The Oscar-winning "Braveheart" star and director was driving 80 mph when he was caught by a radar trap, sheriff's deputies said. The speed limit in that area is 45 mph to 55 mph.

He had .12 % alcohol in his blood, according to the breathalyzer test given on the spot. ...

Apparently, he went on a rampage against Jews, whom he thinks are responsible “for all the wars in the world.” Gibson also cursed and reportedly said “f****** Jews” and asked the deputy who pulled him over whether he was a Jew. Next he said "You motherf****r. I'm going to f*** you," threatening to flex his celebrity muscles to get back at the officer.

Wow.

Just... wow. I don't know whether to be amused or saddened.

Bill Clinton is Gay - Anne Coulter

For a woman who says she's bored with the Clintons, she sure has something to say about Bill. (courtesy of crooks and liars)

I had the misfortune of standing next to the creep a few years back, and he didn't set off my gaydar. Of course, it's not 100% accurate, but still.

Anyway, promiscuity has nothing to do with your sexual orientation, and everything to do with your personality and ethics. Bill isn't a skirt-chaser because he's in denial - he's a skirt chaser because... well, I don't know why he's a skirt chaser. Neither does Anne, really.

But that whole 'gay = narcisism' thing... I've heard that one before, and it's sickening. What does that make heterosexuality, then? Exophilia? Trans-Species Exploration?

I'm wondering low she has to sink before someone finally does the sensible thing. But she sells, and I guess that's all that matters.

Karma Police #928364 - Anne Coulter, Plagiarist

Yeah, I probably spelled Plagiarist wrong. Here's a list of all her alleged "whoopsies" from several things she's written., and please keep in mind that she put the blam on others for sloppy journalism, which Plagiarizing falls under.

As an aside, Adam Carolla hung up on her, but that's what you get from a founder of "the Man show."

Why DID we disband the Osama Unit?

Capitol Hill Blue has some ideas.

he news comes as the widow of Iraq al-Qaida leader Abu Musab al-Zargawi claims his own organization sold him out in exchange for a U.S. promise to ease up on the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

The woman, identified by La Repubblica as al-Zarqawi's first wife, said al-Qaida's top leadership reached a deal with U.S. intelligence because al-Zarqawi had become too powerful. She claimed Sunni tribes and Jordanian secret services mediated the deal.

"I think a secret pact was struck whose immediate goal was his death," she told the newspaper. "In return, the American troops promised to ease, at least momentarily, their hunt for bin Laden."

Sounds a little on the tin-foil side for my tastes, but the timing is kind of odd. Why WOULD we disband the CIA's Osama unit? Psy-ops? Head Games?

Or did we already get him...?

Patriotism - 4th of July, 2006

Patriotism...

Never let them say you hate America because you ask too many questions...

Never let them say you hate the troops because you don't support the mission...

Never let them say you want the terrorists to win because you stand up for human rights...

Never let them say you can leave because you criticize the current government...

Never let them say you support the enemy because you think the press should be a watchdog...

Never let them say you're ignorant because you won't believe their "news"...

Never let them say you're a troublemaker because you refuse to be used...

...and never let them say you aren't patriotic, simply because you disagree.

Thoughtful dissent is part of Patriotism - Pass it on.
