Harry Potter 1, Death-Eaters 0

SUWANEE, Ga. — The Gwinnett County school board voted last night to reject a parent's pleas to take Harry Potter books out of school libraries. The mother of three elementary school students claims the books promote witchcraft.

"At the very heart of this issue is censorship," board member Carole Boyce said before the unanimous vote. "Our students do understand the difference between fact and fiction."

I reported on this earlier,, and I'm glad to see common sense prevailed.

Do they know it's Fitzmas Time At All...?

Within the last week, Karl Rove told President Bush and Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten, as well as a few other high level administration officials, that he will be indicted in the CIA leak case and will immediately resign his White House job when the special counsel publicly announces the charges against him, according to sources.

Details of Rove's discussions with the president and Bolten have spread through the corridors of the White House where low-level staffers and senior officials were trying to determine how the indictment would impact an administration that has been mired in a number of high-profile political scandals for nearly a year, said a half-dozen White House aides and two senior officials who work at the Republican National Committee.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, sources confirmed Rove's indictment is imminent. These individuals requested anonymity saying they were not authorized to speak publicly about Rove's situation. A spokesman in the White House press office said they would not comment on "wildly speculative rumors."

Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, did not return a call for comment Friday.

Here's to them - underneath that burning sun..."

(Of course, this could turn out to be smoke and no fire. But what if...?)

Rummy Gets Called on Lies

courtesy of crooks and liars.

Rumsfeld: ...it appears that there were not weapons of mass destruction there.

McGovern: You said you knew where they were.

Rumsfeld: I did not. I said I knew where suspect sites were and...

McGovern: You said you knew where they were. Tikrit, Baghdad, northeast, south, west of there. Those are your words.

----------- indeed, they are -------------

MR. STEPHANOPOULOS: Finally, weapons of mass destruction. Key goal of the military campaign is finding those weapons of mass destruction. None have been found yet. There was a raid on the Answar Al-Islam Camp up in the north last night. A lot of people expected to find ricin there. None was found. How big of a problem is that? And is it curious to you that given how much control U.S. and coalition forces now have in the country, they haven't found any weapons of mass destruction?

SEC. RUMSFELD: Not at all. If you think -- let me take that, both pieces -- the area in the south and the west and the north that coalition forces control is substantial. It happens not to be the area where weapons of mass destruction were dispersed. We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat.

It's also sad to see people were trying to drag the questioner away from the podium.

When you say "oops"

As MSNBC first reported yesterday, Wilson was not just undercover... but was, according to intelligence sources, part of an effort three years ago to monitor the proliferation of nuclear weapons material into Iran. And the sources allege that when Mrs. Wilson's cover was blown, part of the administration's ability to track Iran's nuclear ambitions was damaged as well.

You can find the transcript here.

"Isn't it ironic... don't you think?"

Mr. Colbert Goes to Washington

We have a partial tape of the proceedings, courtesy of Crooks and Liars.

Apparently, the MSM was more interested in Bush's talk than Colbert's. Pity that. This is some funny, snarky stuff, even if it goes on a little long.
