Burn the Witch, burn to ash and bone (anne coulter)
It's not often I receive a jump up for joy, laugh out loud moment of triumph at work. I had such a moment this past Monday, when, after far too long on the Bestseller's list, Anne Coulter's "Godless" finally fell off the top ten. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but I think that was the shortest run of all her one-word books (Treason, Slander, etc)
Now, I tried to read "Godless." Really, I did. The first chapter was a near-incomprehensible screed that I would have given a big, fat D to if a student had turned it in as an essay. Chapters two and three fell onto legal matters, and once within her old territory she at least made something resembling cogent arguments, but once more she proved that she can't see the forest for the trees. (Who cares if Miranda was a smash-brained monster? The point was the principle that came out of the trial, not the criminal himself)
And the fourth... well, that's when I said "Phooey" and turned it back into the library. I hadn't even gotten to the juicy bits yet, I'm sure, but I really didn't care by that point.
She says no one wants to debate the ideas. Maybe if she wrote something that was more idea than insult, people would. I read one of William Bennett's books back in the 90's, at the urging of a coworker, and while it was pretty ghastly stuff, at least he made something of a coherent argument for his point of view. All Coulter can do is act like the far-right version of Triumph the Comic Insult Dog, and then laugh in glee when someone hits her with rolled up newspaper for crapping on our heads.
I mean, hey, at least someone's paying attention... right?
But is the ship sinking at last? Here's some amusing footage of her on Hannity and Colmes, almost drowning when Sean doesn't call on her when she gets in trouble. (courtesy of Crooks and Liars) Watch her panic and almost jump out of her seat when she gets ignored on a show where she's normally given overly-preferential treatment!
It is to laugh.
